Includes:
Test code 8624: Mumps Virus IgG
Test code 36565: Mumps Virus IgM
Test code 36564: Mumps Virus IgG, IgM
Methodology:
Mumps Virus IgG: Immunoassay (IA)
Mumps Virus IgM: Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA)
Mumps Virus IgG, IgM: Immunoassay (IA) and Immunofluorescence (IFA)
Clinical Significance:
Mumps Virus IgG: Mumps is an acute, usually self-limited systemic illness characterized by parotidites, high fever and fatigue. One third of infections are asymptomatic. A live attenuated vaccine is available. The mumps EIA IgG antibody test is sufficiently sensitive to establish immune status of the patient.
Mumps Virus IgM: FDA Status-ASR 1
This test was developed and its analytical performance characteristics have been determined by Focus Diagnostics, San Juan Capistrano, CA. It has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA has determined that such clearance or approval is not necessary. This assay has be validated pursuant to the CLIA regulations and isused for clinical purposes.
Additional names:
Mumps Virus IgG: Mumps, Mumps Immune, Mumps Virus Anitbody (IgG, Serum), Mumps Immune Status
Mumps Virus IgM: Mumps antibody-IgM, Mumps Virus Soluble Ag
Mumps Virus IgG, IgM: Mumps Evalution
Interpretive Criteria:
Mumps Virus IgG
≤0.90Negative
0.91-1.09Equivocal
≥1.10Positive
A postiive result indicates that the patient has antibody to mumps virus. It does not differentiate between an active or past infection. The clinical diagnosis must be interpreted in conjuctions with clinical signs and symptoms of the patient.
Mumps Virus IgM
<1:20 Antibody not detected
>1:20 Antibody detected
The presence of IgM antibody to mumps typically indicates recent or current mumps infection; however, false positive results may occur due to antibody cross reactivie to parainfluenza virus.
