Community Involvement
At DLO, we are more than just your clinical laboratory. We are your neighbor. Your friend. Your colleague. We are Oklahoma.
That's why our employees created DLOCares; an employee volunteer program that enhances and improves the quality of life in the Oklahoma communities where our employees live and work. We make these improvements by contributing our time, money and talents to various non-profit organizations in an effort to build better communities.
Since its inception, DLOCares has contributed thousands of hours of volunteer time and helped raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charitable causes. Here are some of the charitable organization DLOCares has supported over the past few years:
- American Cancer Society (Oklahoma Chapter)
- Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS)
- Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (Central Oklahoma)
- American Heart Association
- Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity
- Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
- Oklahoma Memorial Fund
- Positive Directions
- Reaching Our City
- Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma
- Lawton Ft. Sill Wellness Challenge
- Stan Hupfeld Academy at Western Village Charter School
In addition to the community work done through DLOCares, DLO supports a number of not-for-profit clinics, health fairs and healthcare foundations through the donation of free or discounted lab work. One of these charities, Manos Juntas, is a free clinic that provides medical care to low-income minorities. By donating basic (yet essential) lab work at no cost, Manos Juntas is able to provide their patients with medical care free of charge.
“We have treated over 10,000 patients and there's no way we could do what we do without the support of DLO,” said Dr. Boyd Shook, President of Manos Juntas.
In July 2009, DLO was recognized for its community efforts by being named a Beacon Award finalist by The Journal Record. The Beacon Award recognizes Oklahoma businesses and non-profits that give back to the community through volunteerism and community involvement.
“We are a company of Oklahomans serving Oklahoma,” said R'Nee Mullen, DLO Chief Executive Officer. “We never lose sight of the fact that behind each test or specimen is a patient awaiting a result. But we also never lose sight of the fact of who we are and where we are from. It’s an honor to give back to the Oklahoma community that supports us."
